May School News

Confirmation

The boys and girls in Rang 6 are preparing every day for their Confirmation on Saturday next 12th May at 11.00a.m. Sincere thanks to Ms McKenna and Fr Owen Joe for all their work with the class. This is always a lovely occasion for the whole parish community. Fr McCaughey will administer the sacrament on the day. We know this will be a special occasion for all these young adults – one that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Holy Communion

The Rang 2 pupils are still working hard practising for their First Holy Communion on Saturday 26th May and we are all looking forward to that lovely occasion. Sincere thanks to all the members of the school staff for their commitment to preparing the children and to ensuring they always have a great experience on these special occasions.

Sport

There is still plenty of sporting activity in Scoil Éanna. Rang 1 and Rang 2 go swimming on Wednesdays. The senior girls are playing their GAA league and have competed well in all their matches. Some children will represent the school in the up-coming swimming gala and also in the county track and field event. We have launched our annual “RITH” programme and hope to have our annual run on 15th June – weather permitting.

Special Olympics

Following on from our successful fundraiser on Lá Glas, we donated €250 to Special Olympics Ireland. We have now received the great news that the Special Olympics Torch run will pass through Ballybay and will call to the school on the week of 11th of June. We will send further details when date and times are confirmed.

Holidays

We have noticed that some families are taking children out of school for holidays. This is very disruptive to school work and many important school events are impacted as a consequence. Teachers are very busy covering the remaining elements of curriculum, preparing for end of year testing and other events and will not be in a position to provide work for children who are going on holiday. Please ensure your children attend school for the whole school year.

School Tours

We are coming into school tour season and each group will be informed separately by their teachers of the date and venue of their tour. Memories of school tour day will stay with children forever and we always try to offer a great experience at the best price for all children.

New Junior Infants Information Meeting

There will be an information meeting for parents of next year’s Junior Infants at 2.10p.m. on Wednesday 6th June. The children are welcome to accompany their parents to this event. We will notify all those involved closer to the time.

6th Class Graduation

The 6th Class graduation ceremony will take place on Tuesday 19th of June. This is always a very special event in the life of the school and we are looking forward to the evening. Further information will be sent to parents closer to the date.

Days Off

We would like to remind you that the school will be closed for children on Monday 14th May to facilitate staff training in the new Child Protection Guidelines. The school is a polling station in the upcoming referendum so we will also be closed on Friday 25th May.
